Dr. Steve White
Steve is a Senior Lecturer at Auckland University of Technology where he is the Paper Leader for both the postgraduate and undergraduate musculoskeletal physiotherapy papers. He completed the NZMPA Diploma in Manipulative Therapy in 1981, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (1995), a Masters in Health Science (2000) and a PhD in 2016. His PhD explored the diagnostic accuracy of the clinical examination for determining the presence of symptomatic intra-articular pathology of the hip.
Prior to his academic appointment, Steve had 27 years’ experience in private practice managing patients with musculoskeletal pain. He has tutored on the NZMPA program since 1982 and has been invited to speak and run courses throughout New Zealand, in Australia and the USA. His key area of interest is the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal pain, with a particular emphasis on diagnostic accuracy and clinical reasoning.
Steve also has extensive experience in governance and executive roles having served on numerous professional bodies including the New Zealand Private Practitioners Association, the College of Physiotherapy, the Physiotherapy Board Specialist Competency Committee and NZMPA Executive, Education and Conference Committees. Steve was the New Zealand delegate to International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) from 2011 and was elected to the executive committee in 2016. He is also an expert advisor to the New Zealand Health and Disabilities Commissioner.
