NZMPA Cervical Spine Assessment and Management

This course has been completed for 2023.

If you are interested in attending this event in the future please contact admin@nzmpa.org.nz.

NZMPA are offering a one-day course on the assessment and management of the cervical spine, designed for physiotherapists who have graduated during the Covid-19 pandemic. The impact of Covid 19 was significant over the last few years and means this group in particular may have missed training opportunities to develop or practice their physical skills. In addition, face-to-face clinical experience may have been reduced by lockdowns and restrictions. Any physiotherapists who graduated in 2020, 2021 or 2022 are welcome to attend, you don’t have to be an NZMPA member.

The aim is to improve manual assessment and mobilisation skills, building potential to progress to HVT techniques. The course should really help to build confidence in this area. It will also be a chance to get a flavour of an NZMPA course and may inspire participants to explore the Certificate of Manipulative Therapy (COMT) courses on offer throughout the year.

Courses will be led by NZMPA tutors or NZMPA members who are teachers in the Universities. The Auckland course will be led by Prof Duncan Reid, one of the senior NZMPA tutors who has significant national and international expertise at teaching comfort and safety in the cervical spine. The Dunedin course will be delivered by Gerard Farrell, Dusty Quinn, Dr Ewan Kennedy and Dr Cathy Chapple.
